It’s been a tough week, so far, with all this rain. I’ve got nothing against rainy days, especially in the fall. But c’mon! Four days of gloomy, all I wanna do is snuggle into bed. And as a loyal employee/student (and good friend), I didn’t call in to be lazy. Instead, I cured my blues with a nice small serving of hot spiced apple cider! It was a great pick-me-up on my lunch break with Laura, and it made me all cozy in the office. Just what I needed to remind me of the season.
Funny little story about Wednesday evening. As always, I had class until nine and was home by twenty after. Right when I walked in the front door, I could smell Roscoe. As a side note, by Wednesday, he’s pissed at me. I leave at 7:45 am and he dislikes being home all day, alone, with no dinner. So, by Wednesday, he gets mad and shows me this by leaving a “present” on a carpeted surface. Last week I thought I had eliminated this problem by picking up all carpets on Wednesday morning. I walk in, I can smell it, but can’t find it anywhere. I fed him, loved him, cooked myself a late night snack when BAM! I found the present. On a pile of research/homework. Lucky me, huh? Needless to say, I was home promptly by 5:30 this evening and loved him plenty before taking a little walk. Kim and Laura thought this was hilarious, I on the other hand, not so much. Stinky Roscoe.
The Pioneer Co-Op is FINALLY open!!! I’ve been hearing about this project since I was a student at RSC and love love love that it’s only about four blocks away. I no longer have to drive to buy groceries, and best of all, it’s bulk. It’s organic/natural. It’s locally grown. It’s perfect! I’m so thankful for this and knew I had to make a trip over as soon as I could. And no better excuse than a celebration. Last week was Joe’s 23rd birthday and because he had already made plans and I was booked for a henna bridal party, we didn’t do much. I put my favorite fall boots and coat on and skipped my way down the streets of Troy.
The market was good, still filling up, but very promising. I didn’t know what I was going to make for Joe, but knew I’d make my decision on the fresh offerings on hand. Tonight’s menu ended up to be as follows:
- Fresh salad with autumn colored tomatoes with my favorite local cheddar and a homemade balsamic-mustard dressing.
- For Joe, a T-Bone steak (locally raised and grass fed beef) marinated in a little tamari, sea salt, fresh pepper and garlic.
- Freshly sauteed red & green peppers with onions.
- Purple mashed potatoes (my favorite!) with gorgonzola cheese crumbles.
- Coho Red wine, also a favorite.
I’m pretty sure Joe was satisfied- it was gone before I knew it! And to think that he was planning on NOT coming down on our weekly date night, ha! I did have to ruin the surprise element to get him down here- it sure is hard to surprise this kid. OH! Dessert will be just as good- I’ll share those images soon.
I’ve got a jammed packed weekend but will surely update. Enjoy the wonderful weather, stop to smell the crisp autumn air, and take a couple extra photographs, I know I will.
