Today’s a different day than most; I’m leaving for the weekend and the beau is leaving for the next week. It’ll be our first time apart from each other since my last trip out of the country in November. I think we both have mixed feelings but I think we can both agree that alone time is much needed. He’ll be on vacation with his family, and I’ll be hiking and camping in the Adirondacks! I’ve been looking forward to today all week.
I figured I’d leave y’all with some of my weekly favorites.
First off, a recipe. Cheddar biscuits with tomatoes and caramelized onions (adapted from Joy the Baker).
I followed her recipe with only a few alterations:
- I used more than two pounds of fresh tomatoes but did use the suggested two caramelized onions.
- I cut the biscuit recipe in half, but accidentally added the full amount of sugar.
- Instead of bleu cheese (I’m highly allergic), I substituted sharp cheddar.
No joke, one of my all time favorite recipes, EVER! I had anticipated making this recipe for weeks but was hesitant because the beau is not a fan of tomatoes (it’s a texture thing). But I needed to use of the multiple pounds of fresh crop in the fridge. It smelled delicious. The biscuits were perfectly shaped and browned. And the beau went back for seconds! I’ve already forewarned him that I’m going to be making this dish for every guest we have over and until the last of the tomatoes are picked from Engelke Farm.
Secondly, I found this article and can’t wait to read her book.
My all-time, absolute favorite store is coming to Crossgates before Christmas 2012! Can we say altogether, “Jona, cut up your credit card today!”
Looking to get drunk fast and cheaply? We purchased Bud Light Platinum and didn’t expect the 6% alcohol content. Perfect for mid-week binges. Personally, I like the blue bottles (reminds of Saratoga Water, another personal favorite).
We visited Trader Joe’s for the first time this week (first time ever for the beau). Review: it’s smaller than expected, has zero parking, but does carry the essentials: cookie butter and my most favorite sponge ever!
Watching this reminds me of the impression my dad does: happy birthday, Julia Child! (please, watch in full)
This is the look I give the beau when he speaks of the unspeakable.
Enjoy the next two days!
