Dear Kitty Kitty Cocoa Puff: You’ve been such a good kitty cat this past week as I’ve shuffled through the boxes and moved things just so. Thank you for not shitting on our nice hardwood floors; for this I will continue to eat breakfast on the floor, in the window, in the sun, while we watch the city wake up. Dear Momma G: Thank you for a delicious Easter dinner and for officially getting me hooked on your vegan “cheese” blend (panko bread crumbs, raw walnuts and nutritional yeast). Dear Vegan “Cheese” Blend: I promise to put you on all of my big green salads for lunch. And never tire of your nutty, crunchy deliciousness. Dear Beau: Waking up next to you in our new, spacious bedroom is so good, I am late almost every day. The way the light shines in slowly to awake our senses, is just what I need in my semi-hectic life.
This past week has been busy, but productive. I’ve almost completely unpacked/organized our belongings and actually can not wait to do the laundry so that I can step into my closet and not reach in. Above is a view of our bedroom in the afternoon- what you can’t see is the big closet hiding the mentioned dirty pile of laundry. Yes, that is a door and yes, that leads out to a mini porch. My hopes are to hang flowers and a bird feeder, and grow edible flowers, herbs and lettuce this summer for our salads. Because we share the space with our neighbor, I must ask first but being a guy, I can’t imagine him caring. Plus, I’d share.
Do any of you have small porch gardens or grow any edible flowers of your own? Have any favorites? The color they add makes it that much easier for me to eat my raw greens.
I don’t grow many of these herbs for the flowers but I always have chives, basil, lavender, mint, thyme, and honeysuckle around and I know that you can eat all of their flowers. You can eat pea blossoms as well, but I’ve never grown them in pots, as long as they have something to grow up i’m sure it will be fine.
Have you thought of doing a verticle garden?
thank you! I have thought about a vertical garden however, because we don’t have much space- I’ll most likely have mini raised beds and/or hanging planters. more pictures will surely follow this spring to demonstrate 🙂
What’s the deal with the deer head on the wall?
ha! very good question, I’ve kind of explained it here – when I saw it, it reminded me of my dad/home and it’s vegan friendly 🙂
