Yesterday I took a leisurely hike in the Catskill Mountains to celebrate the changing of the seasons. Because my knee was acting up on Sunday, I didn’t want to push myself mileage wise just in case it became a bigger issue, so we decided to hike Windham High Peak. This is the 33rd tallest peak at 3,524 feet and is just shy of seven miles round trip.
I really enjoyed this trail because it was fairly easy. We’d climb for a short section and have plenty of recovery spots to catch our breath. Also, the landscape surely changed as we traveled through the forest. Some sections of the hike were pretty dense and others had patches of green, fluffy grass. In one area all you could see were roots. With the overcast sky and chill in the air, it definitely felt like autumn.
