I know, I’m shaking my head too. Almost five months have passed since my last post. For a while I was uninspired to write and other times I had a running list of everything I’ve wanted to share but couldn’t find the time to sit still. So much has happened to me over the last couple months, here’s a list to put things into perspective:
1. The beau and I stepped away from the business! And with that, I was left unemployed for a short while. Are you shocked? A lot of people have been shocked when we share that bit of information. I won’t get into why we made that decision but I can say that it was time and we’re both happy having a life again – ha! Unemployment was heaven may I add! It definitely felt odd for a day or two not walking to the shop but that habit was easily broken. I took off to New Hampshire to hike, I slept (a lot), I saw friends/drank/ate out more than usual (it was worth it), I had the pleasure of hanging out with a 4 year old for a week and I interviewed multiple times (5) for a super awesome position. I feel like I went through more hoops than Trump did…
2. I got a new job! Heyyyyy-o! I’m now working (read: driving to) for a NYS start-up company, Hudson River Foods. You can try Googling us but not much is out there just yet. We’re building a food manufacturing facility in the old Hamilton Printing warehouse to produce items for the 10 brands that we currently own – and have been paying co-packers to make up to this point. There is so much potential for growth – I’m just excited to be working for a company that produces vegan food! Oh, and the beau got a job too; you should ask him about it the next time you see him out, you know, enjoying Troy.
3. We’re buying a house! Ahhhhhh! This was long overdue. Our apartment is great: it’s downtown, rent is cheap and it’s in a brownstone so there’s ton of character. But the kitchen is too tiny and we’ve been dreaming of a washer and dryer for years. The laundromat is hell I tell ya! Having a closing date is even more torture, however! For the past month we’ve just been daydreaming about painting, where specific pieces of art will be hung, doing laundry in the basement, even washing the dishes – chores / home improvement (read: spending money) never seemed so thrilling! Tentative closing date is next Tuesday – weeeeeee!
4. I’m engaged! This too was a shock to many because everyone assumed we were already hitched – ha! In November we celebrated five years and also dove into planning a wedding. We do have a date: May 20, 2017 and I can’t wait to share everything, eventually. I don’t want to give away too many details before the big day but I can say we are incorporating as many small businesses/makers as possible. Almost all of it is done/determined/deposits paid for because we are pretty decisive people and didn’t shop around much – and because we aren’t making a huge fuss over this one day. As I’ve been telling friends and family: nothing fancy just love.
2016 surely brought good change into our lives!
