Today’s Notes

Dear Beau: There is no other person I’d rather explore new places with, especially when said person steps up to be my DD on a Sunday afternoon 3 hours from home. Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun: It feels so good to be reunited with you. Make yourself at home this season, I’d love to start working on my raised gardens soon. Kitty Kitty Cocoa Puff: I told you we’d be home on Sunday. I’m enjoying all of the extra snuggles this week (and sleeping in past six o’clock). Dear Self: Taking time off to rest is okay. But taking two weeks off because you’re being lazy is not. Let’s get back, back in the (NY) groove.

Happy Tuesday, friends! Are you planting a garden this year? Any tips?

currentlyTapering: Yup, the tapering mood swings have officially started to begin. Being busy at the shop keeps my mind preoccupied but eventually the reality hits me that I’ve barely ran these past two weeks (hiking and a pulled neck/back muscle) and I start to have a little internal panic attack. I’ve also been motivated to clean and reorganize everything in the apartment. Clean home = clear mind, right? Right! I was fine, really, until quite a few people on my team raced yesterday at both the marathon and half marathon distances. That only means one thing, it’s my turn in exactly one week! This past month has flown by. I thought of them as I set out to run my ten miles and last long run of the cycle.

Confessing: It actually takes me a long time to clean despite being motivated to have a clean home. I love listening to music while I clean, but only on my headphones. Sometimes I get distracted and turn it more into a dance party. And then sometimes I think of a blog post and sit down to write before I forget… Hey! The bathroom is done and all surfaces in the living room have been dusted.

Eating: Well, I kind of fell off the healthy eating wagon and decided to eat any and all foods possible. Including countless servings of french fries from McDonalds, The Ruck, Hannaford’s extra crispy shoestrings and Beirut’s garlic fries with mint. I’m also on a huge refried bean kick. And a fresh everything bagel with hummus from Psychedelicatessen kick. And I’ve polished off two entire bowls from Chipotle with both beans, sofritas and all the (vegan) toppings. I can’t be stopped! Operation portion control and healthy options over the next six days has officially commenced… but I can’t promise some of those items won’t creep in.

Missing: Miley girl. A couple of weeks ago we gave back the cat we had been fostering since January. Her owner is a friend of mine and moved closer, so I’ve been able to see her a couple of times before heading out for my early morning runs. She seems to have adjusted fine to her new home and is happy to see me, but I miss seeing her when I come home in the evening. She also liked to snuggle and sing along to my morning tunes. I don’t miss her middle-of-the-night sprints across the bed and cleaning a litter box shared by two cats, but I think the good outweighed the bad; I wouldn’t have been able to put up with her for so long if not.

Planning: my fitness goals after the marathon. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: I’ve enjoyed training for this marathon. Never did the distance seem daunting and I think that’s because I’ve surrounded myself with some pretty kick-ass running people/friends. I probably only ran solo three or four times over the past four months. My mom asked me not so long ago if I was done running and of course my answer was no! I do want to make some changes with my schedule and how much I am running. I’m a cold weather runner for sure but I’m also a winter hiker. My last trip into the White Mountains reaffirmed my fear that I’m not hiking enough — my legs were toast the day after! I’ve got to find balance for everything that I love to do and being in the woods is at the top of that list. I’d also love to focus on my strength and toning up. More on that to come as soon as I get everything worked out.

Watching: the METS! The beau and I travelled back to Queens the last week of September to sneak in a night game before the season ended. We’ve been watching almost every game – even at the shop – on the computer and good golly, they made it to the post season! I was pretttttty disappointed about missing the game last week when they clinched the division but it was an awesome text to receive at the top of Mount Washington. Baseball is new to me but the best part is seeing the sparkle in the beau’s eyes; he has been following along since the age of ten and from what I’ve learned over the past four years, it’s been hard to be a Met’s fan. The excitement is contagious! Even my mom has begun to watch! Which is huge because her bedtime is at like seven o’clock. Ha! I’m pretty excited to head to The Ruck to watch a game and be able to enjoy a beer (or four) after the marathon.

Loving: this season! The cooler (running) temperatures, the smell of the crunchy leaves, the love in the air. Can’t get any better than this.

Dear Beau: I love that you sometimes make me giggle as we are trying to fall asleep. Hearing you describe me as a Chopped basket of ingredients never gets old (I’d be Lucky Charms, Good Humor ice cream bar, cow’s heart and durian by the way). Dear tomato plant: Thank you for the cherry-sized bites of deliciousness, even though I’ve neglected you over the past couple of weeks. I promise to keep you plenty watered from this day forward. Dear Facebook: Today is the start of my new relationship with you. I’m going to set my boundaries for a couple of months before I come back to say hello… that is, if I decide I want you back in my life. I guess only time will tell.

As I was typing this out, I realized my childhood best friend is due in 38 days with her first baby (boy) and I’m most likely going to miss out on those photographs. While we don’t communicate regularly, I’ve been following along with her pregnancy online. Miss Nancy if you’re reading this, please email me and I’ll give you my number (though, it hasn’t changed since high school). I’m sending positive vibes to you!

“Where focus goes, energy follows” is a mantra I’m keeping close to heart these days.

Today’s Letters.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetDear Beau: Thank you for making my dreams come true last night and baking me a (vegan) buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese. Yet another time I am thankful you know your way around a kitchen. Dear Early Morning Spin Class: My legs feel like cinder blocks and I’m ready for a nap around 10 AM but I think that means you’re working. Dear Baby Mason: You cross my mind daily and I can’t wait to snuggle with you again. Better yet, I can’t wait to take you out for long runs in the BOB stroller. #mydreamshavefinallycometrue Dear Taylor: Your patience with my 4:51 wake up time and then endless supply of dancing once I return home from the gym is inspiring. Thank you for cranking the hip hop workout station and laughing along with me.

Cheers to lunch breaks filled with green smoothies, flowers from a co-worker that knows they are my favorite and a silenced phone. #ithinkicanithinkicanithinkican

cheers to one year!

photo (3)Dear Apartment: This past year has flown by! Thank you for keeping me warm this winter season and for giving me spectacular views each morning of the rising sun. Thank you for the bigger oven that fits a real-sized baking sheet (for french fries) and for the porch that helps me grow food that fills my belly. I enjoy listening to the birds when they come to visit (and kitty thinks the squirrel is such a tease). Dear Beau: I think I’ve made pretty good on my word about being a decent roommate. I’ve definitely done my share of the dishes and continue to dance each morning while we get ready for work. My clothes now change with the season and have appropriate homes- I will work on putting the dirty ones in the hamper in a more timely manner. I still love waking up next to you every morning. Dear Spring: I know you’re out there, somewhere. Please shine down on me.

I’ve been a slacker this week with my writing but you know what, I don’t care. Ha! I’ve found myself packing and preparing fresh(er) meals before leaving for the day, working out more on my lunch breaks and settling in much earlier than I had been previously. And I kind of like the routine. Now just to schedule in some necessities like making a trip to the laundromat and catching up with friends. But even with the craziness and the wrapping up of the month, I remembered that we’ve officially been in this new apartment a year- today.

Our intentions were to build a fort and  sleep on the floor and celebrate but TNO got the best of us and here I sit, typing away as the beau sleeps away his pesky cold. But that’s okay, we’ll have plenty more nights to build a fort and sleep on the hardwood floors.

Special thanks to Colie who stopped by with two beautiful bouquets to fill our home (and snapped the photograph above). They are lovely and I am drawn to the deep purple shades, reminding me that there is still snow on the ground.
