Ah, it’s that time of the year when everything is covered in yellow pollen and tissues are stuffed into everyone’s pockets. Sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny noises seem to be the norm, but not in our apartment! Luckily, the beau and I don’t have as severe seasonal symptoms (say that three times fast!) as most, but I will occasionally wake up wanting to claw my eyes out and when that happens, I turn to my essential oils.
Lemon, lavender and peppermint all come in the premium starter kit and are known as the seasonal trio because they can help support your respiratory system. Here are the ways in which we use Young Living essential oils to tackle the side effects of Spring:
Diffuse: All you do is pop 3-4 drops of each oil into the diffuser and turn that puppy on. I blend this trio throughout the entire year because the smell is so refreshing! This blend is especially great on the days that you’re cleaning and kicking dust up into the air. You can also inhale directly from each of the bottles if you are out and about.
Topically: Place 2-3 drops of each oil on the bottoms of your feet or the back of your neck before starting your day. I cheated and made my own blend that I carry around with me daily in my backpack to make application easier. I used an empty bottle of lavender, put in 20 drops of each oil, popped on the roller ball top that also came with the kit, and wa-la! You can also add a tiny squirt of your favorite carrier oil (coconut, almond, v-6) if your skin is sensitive or would like it to go a little further. I like this method best because it’s the easiest and can be applied throughout the day if you’re spending time outside. *Note: lemon oil is photosensitive. This means if you apply it and head out into the sun, you may get sun spots! When in doubt, apply to your feet.
Internally: Yup, you can ingest these oils! Put 2-3 drops of each oil into a veggie capsule (sold at most health food stores or directly through Young Living) and take with a big glass of water. You can also add these drops to a big spoon of local honey. I honestly haven’t tried this method (with this specific oil blend) because applying the oils topically has worked best for me.
I’m so happy I found this alternative to over the counter medications, which always left me feeling drowsy and broke, depending on how much was needed to do the job.
