Earlier this week the beau and I had the opportunity to hear and meet (briefly) Joe Cross from Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. I had originally seen the film almost three years ago and had done a two-week reboot and loved it! I felt clean, healthy and very much aware of everything that I was consuming. It was very easy at the time to commit to because I was living by myself and didn’t have any temptations around me; what was in my apartment was in my apartment (and it was filled with fresh produce).
Just a few weeks ago I found myself craving a juice reboot- that’s when I had expressed that I was going to try to eat raw before six o’clock in the evening. Let’s be honest here, it was and has been pretty difficult living with the beau and trying to carry this out. I’m not blaming him- the man’s gotta eat- but willpower this time around was weak. And then out of nowhere, I saw a random announcement that Joe Cross was coming. It was a sign!
Although I did find a little of what he had to say very repetitive of the film, I did find it motivational. To hear his frankness about the state of the nation health-wise and the excuses that people tell themselves, motivated me to kick it up a notch. I sat there thinking to myself, “this is what I need. I need a reboot.” But I knew that the beau wasn’t interested. Well, I was wrong! By the end of the night, the beau was convinced that he too needed one. Score!
So we took a look at our schedules and decided to start our 2-week juicing reboot this upcoming Monday. I know, I know, pushed to Monday. We have a good reason: Sunday dinner at his parents’ house. This weekend I’ll be planning our juices for each day of the week and making a list of everything we’ll need to buy. This won’t be cheap but then again we won’t be eating out, so it’ll even out. I’m hoping my body adjusts well to the change because I have an upcoming race on the 15th and a big hike on the 16th planned. I may have to rethink my pace goals on Thursday, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
With all that being said, we don’t have much to eat in our apartment right now. We are working on eating up what’s leftover and frozen so that we don’t end up wasting anything during the reboot. Lucky for us this week, we got three bags of frozen goods! This is the first week that Field Goods has delivered beans, which I’m pretty happy about because I love kidney beans on my salads lately. The lettuce will be gobbled up in such salads, most likely with a goddess dressing and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast. Tonight we are going to use up some tempeh and saute it fajita style with an onion and the package of frozen peppers. Instead of wraps, because we don’t have any, we’ll put that over some basmati rice. I’d love to make some sweet potato fries but if I don’t get to them this weekend, they’ll save well with the other potatoes in the basket. Lastly, the apple cider will be sipped by both of us but honestly, it’s difficult for us to finish a container.
Have you ever done a juice reboot? Have you ever seen the film? Does your juicer “spit out” the pulp or keep it within the machine? Ours keeps it in and we are looking to upgrade to keep the preparation and clean-up time low.
