Odds + Ends

July 30, 2015 by zeelemons

July has been busy, yet wonderful in the life of Jona. And while I haven’t taken many photographs, I have much to share!

metsEarlier this month, the beau and I traveled back into Queens to see another Mets game! We usually only go once a season, but we stumbled upon some buy-one-get-one tickets and couldn’t resist a Sunday day trip. I got me a new hat and witnessed history: Kirk Nieuwnhuis hit three home runs in one game, the first to accomplish this at Citi Field! And just when I thought vegan hot dogs and pretzels were enough at the stadium, we found a cute little Thai restaurant called Zoob Zib for dinner before hopping back on the train; a place I’d love to revisit again.

north-creekgarnet-hillWe also had a mini three day vacation in the Adirondacks at the Garnet Hill Lodge. We had all of these plans for mining for actual garnets, kayaking, spending an endless amount of time on the beach soaking up the sun… but time goes by so quickly! We explored the tiny town of North Creek, ate two delicious meals in Indian Lake, spent hours wandering the ADK Museum (which I highly recommend!) and enjoyed each other’s company without the interruption of cell phones and customers. It was just what we both needed.

IMG_8410On the day we checked out, we were on the road and expected to be back in Troy by 1PM. I thought to myself, “if we closed the shop special today, I don’t want to end up in Troy before 5PM!” I shared this out loud and the beau was quick to agree… so we hopped off the nearest exit to wander Glens Falls. And then traveled back north to Lake George. With no plans, we walked down memory lane (that place hasn’t changed in years), grabbed some Thai food and ate near the water, people watching. The beau suggested we take a ride on the Minne-Ha-Ha and I was all for it! I had never been and who turns down a boat ride on a gorgeous day? Not this girl!

taylor-swiftThis past Friday I randomly found out that Taylor Swift was going to be at Foxborough that weekend performing two shows, so after a quick text to a close friend, it was decided: off to MA we’d go! We spent a ridiculous amount of money for nosebleed seats but we both had the best time. Can we talk about T-Swift for a hot moment? She seems like the nicest, most genuine person, ever. Yes, her songs are young and pop but they are fun and I just can’t seem to get them out of my head! I’ve watched the two short videos that I took on my phone probably twenty times and haven’t taken the shirt I purchased that night off; the beau is a saint for putting up with all my Taylor talk.

hikingMonday I took my favorite nine year old out for an easy hike up Prospect Mountain in Lake George. It was hot, humid and a little buggy, but he summited and all he could talk about on the hike down was other mountains. He wants to eventually hike the 46 and understands that he’s got a lot of practicing until I take him up his first peak. This hike was tricky for him but I’m proud that he didn’t give up, or waste his water early on when he wanted to dump it all over himself. We took photographs using my Lomography fisheye camera and I told him once they’re developed, we could start a hiking journal to document our adventures. I think I’m more excited than he is.

Instagram post 2193051808910743567_3118033 Accountability time!
I *finally* reconciled November’s budget and made a deposit/transfer to savings = $3,354.55 into the emergency fund! It’s now 68.99% fully funded = we are getting there!
I anticipate at least 3 more months of saving to refill this account, even with Christmas factored in. From there, we can’t wait to start saving for other items for our home, including a new mattress and maybe even a vacation! We’re keeping our eyes on the prize (financial peace)!
