All Things Owl

April 29, 2014 by zeelemons

all-things-owlCoincidentally, all of the items above happened to come into my life within a month’s span. And now in result, I must admit, I’m a little smitten with owls. While hiking the Taconic Crest trail last week, we heard multiple owls and one even flew across the trail when I approached. He was too quiet and too fast for me to get a good glimpse before he disappeared back into the woods.

From left to right:

As mentioned in a previous post, I met Adelia at a collage night and looked up her online Etsy shop, only to fall in love with this necklace. It is a mini glass vial filled with bones found on her property. Now how you may wonder does she find these teeny tiny bones? Well, owl pellets of course. And just in case you don’t remember from elementary school what owl pellets are, they are the regurgitated remains of what owls can’t digest. Cool, huh?! She collects them, cleans them up and paints some of them gold before putting them into the vials. My sister thinks this item is quite morbid and un-vegan of me, but I think it’s pretty special and part of nature’s life cycle.

A close friend of mine highly recommended this book, so I bumped it up to the top of my library list. It was wonderful! I learned so many little facts about owls and fell in love with Wesley and his little characteristics; and even balled my eyes out at the ending. I was thankful the beau wasn’t around- I may have been a hot mess for about three minutes. This book was an easy read- only took me two days, even with my “busy” schedule. I would recommend this to everyone, especially those taking a mini vacation in the woods. I can also recommend the library- you know, that place that let’s you read any book for free. I only mention this because I’m shocked by how many of my friends don’t utilize this wonderful resource.

Now this t-shirt was inspired by a story on NPR that Ben had heard a couple months back (here is something similar). The tee has a couple of interesting facts, supporting why owls have super senses- all of which I learned in the book mentioned above. The tee is a super cozy tri-blend and is now my go-to shirt when we are vending. Found at Troy Cloth & Paper of course.

Do you know much about owls? Have you ever seen one? Did you know they sell owl pellets to the general public? Hello stocking stuffer!

Instagram post 2193051808910743567_3118033 Accountability time!
I *finally* reconciled November’s budget and made a deposit/transfer to savings = $3,354.55 into the emergency fund! It’s now 68.99% fully funded = we are getting there!
I anticipate at least 3 more months of saving to refill this account, even with Christmas factored in. From there, we can’t wait to start saving for other items for our home, including a new mattress and maybe even a vacation! We’re keeping our eyes on the prize (financial peace)!

Instagram post 2190119545181015912_3118033 November was a high mileage month, despite taking a week off for a head cold - super proud! Going to try and keep my mileage up in December despite the cold, dark mornings... and the fact that my running partner is still out of commission.☹️I’ll have to get creative with all of today’s snow... I refuse to stay inside on the treadmill!
